William Prater, formerly a radio DJ in Waco, was indicted today for failure to stop and render aid and intoxication assault. The charges stem from two seperate accidents that occurred this past September. One of the accidents resulted in a young woman being seriously injured and sent to the hospital. A florida man has been arrested and charged with traveling to meet a minor for sex and two counts of online solicitation of a parent for sex with a child. Sheriff's detectives in the area answered an on-line ad created by a man seeking to meet a family for fun. The man was later discovered to be 46-year-old Jeffrey Whipple, who unknowingly chatted with the police about having sex with a woman and her daughter. Last month police discovered a similar ad posted by Whipple and they told him that the girl would be 9 years old. Whipple was taken into custody when he showed up at a meeting place designated by him and the under-cover officers. After crashing into a school bus earlier this month, Sgt. Ruben Trejo has been charged with DWI. Trejo was on his way to work when he smashed into the bus at 2:15 in the afternoon. Jesus Soto, of Tyler, has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The charges stem from an accident in which a 12-year-old girl was killed. Police say that Soto was driving drunk when he crashed into another vehicle this past Friday night. According to police, a suspected drunk driver was attempting to make a turn when he struck another vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into a parked car and then ended up driving into the staircase of an apartment building. A suspected drunk driver was taken into custody following a serious car accident this morning. Police say a man in a pickup truck was traveling down the Gulf Freeway when he drove into the back of another vehicle. 61-year-old Donald Lewis has been indicted on three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, eight counts of indecency with a child and five counts of sexual assault of a child. Lewis is the former Sulphur Springs Chief of Police. Lewis was also an officer in Sulphur Springs for more than 25 years. If convicted, he will be facing up to life in prison. Burns Phenix Jr. has been charged with aggravated kidnapping with the intent to inflict serious bodily injury and/or sexual abuse and aggravated sexual assault. According to police, Phenix is a married man but has been dating the victim for about a year. Police say that Phenix got into an argument with the woman and began hitting her. Fort Worth police officer James Howze was arrested early this morning for DWI in Haltom City. Howze was pulled over at about 2:15am when an officer saw his vehicle drifting to the shoulder of the freeway. When asked if he would consent to field sobriety tests Howze said yes and he consented to a blood draw as well. He was later released after posting bail. According to police a motorcyclist was headed west on Rankin Road when the driver of another vehicle turned in front of the motorcyclist. According to police, Joe Rogers was traveling west on West Erwin when his vehicle drifted into the East bound lanes. Lashwanda Allen has been charged with endangering a child after her 1-year-old daughter was found drunk. Police say that the toddler had a blood alcohol content of .09. Two homeless men have been charged with sexually oriented crimes involving a minor. 20-year-old Brandon Hurley was arrested for online solicitation of a minor. Hurley has been accused of sending a 14-year-old girl a text message in which he asked her for oral sex. Police discovered the text messages while they were investigating another man, that Hurley happens to know. Last week 27-year-old Mark Brock was arrested after he was caught fondling the same young girl at her home. Brock has been charged with indecency with a child. Abel Castro pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor online this past Thursday. Castro was caught during a sting, targeting online predators, by the Texas Attorney General's Office. Castro arranged a meeting with what he believed was a 14-year-old boy. Michael Crawley pleaded guilty to two counts of online solicitation this past Friday. Crawley was sentenced to seven years of probation after pleading guilty. According to authorities, Crawley engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl. The 13-year-old girl turned out to be an undercover policeman. Jose Lopez Jr. was convicted this past Friday of his fifth DWI. The most recent DWI arrest took place after Lopez ran a stop sign and was stopped by police. The deputy that pulled him over said he smelled alcohol on Lopez, saw beer in his vehicle, and found cocaine in the car. During the punishment phase Lopez denied having a drinking problem. He was ultimately sentenced to 32 years in prison.
Benjamin Childress has been charged with soliciting a minor over the internet. Manvel police were called around midnight in regard to two people parked in a field. When officers arrived on the scene they found Childress with a 15-year-old boy. According to police, Childress met the boy on Craigslist. If convicted, Childress will be facing up to 20 years in prison.
Humberto Munoz was sentenced to 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter yesterday. According to reports Munoz ran down Raul Reyes in a flea market. Reyes received serious injuries and died shortly after the crash. Munoz's blood alcohol level was 0.14 at the time of the accident.
Omar Chahid was charged with DWI after flipping his car on a North Carolina road. During the course of the accident one man was killed and three others were injured. Drunk driving charges were dropped against Chahid in a strategic move by the prosecution. The DWI charge was dropped so that the prosecution can have the opportunity to bring more serious charges in the future.
